![]() ![]() ![]() And at the time, none of it made sense to me. The game unapologetically thrusts you into its world with difficult tracks, directionally numbered terms, and a very different style of driving. WRC 10 is an experience focused on Rally fans. Yet, as obvious as it might sound, WRC 10 isn’t concerned with racing casuals like me. Having played series like Need for Speed Heat and Forza Horizon 4, I naively approached WRC expecting a meshed experience closer to Dirt. It is a tense, tight-knit racer that you will agonize over left and right, cursing the single bumps that flip your car and trying your best to keep your foot off the pedal.Īs someone entirely new to the WRC series, such mechanics were a challenge to overcome. WRC 10, on the other hand, is all about functionality. Expansive drifts, blisteringly high speeds, gorgeous graphics, and fancy UI to watch your level fly up are staples. The popularized racers of this generation (PS4/XB1) all focus on making the driver feel cool and fast (and maybe a little furious). Veterans of the genre will be allowed to the move directly into WRC3 competition, but I’d strongly recommend fiddling with the assist settings to find the best options that fit your drive style.Yet much like the issue facing the Formula 1 games, WRC 10 is intimidating to any unfamiliar with the world of rally driving. Unfortunately, you can't just jump in the 50th Anniversary mode, you’ll have to unlock these events in the Career mode first. There will be a total of 19 events that shaped the history of the World Rally Championship, which you can relive throughout WRC 10. You can even take the Subaru Impreza WRC and Mitsubishi Lancer Evo V for a spin (they’re available separately as free DLC). This is where you can drive classic cars like the Alpine A110 Berlinette, Audi quattro Sport, Lancia Stratos, Lancia Delta Integrale, Toyota Celica, and many more. ![]() WRC 10 adds a so-called 50th Anniversary mode, a celebration of the motorsport’s 50-year history. Sometimes you’re given the option to choose between three different events or, something new for the WRC series, you can race in anniversary events. New events will pop up on your calendar, and you can choose to ignore them if they’re optional. Finally, if you’re just interested in competing in rally, you can go for Season mode, which removes all the team management aspects. You can also fire and hire new people that will take care of your car. In the R&D section, you’ll be spending points awarded to you after each event to improve your team members further. If you’re going for full immersion and choose the cockpit view, you’ll have very limited adjustment options for the FoV (field of view).Īlthough driving is what you’ll do most of the time in WRC 10, if you really want to see what it means to be part of a rally team, there are a couple of additional things that you’ll have to oversee. ![]() Also, depending on what view you’re using, you might or might not have a pleasant experience. Of course, there’s room for improvements like, for instance, better implementation of H-shifter physics. Physics are a step up from WRC 9, especially on tarmac, and so is the handling of the cars. But before you get to tackle your first official rally, you’re going to go through a couple of Training sessions just to get the feel of the car. While competing in Junior WRC, your main objectives are to complete five major rallies: Croatia, Portugal, Estonia, Chile, and Rally RACC Catalunya-Costa Daurada. Since this is a beginner’s stage, you’ll have an unlimited number of tryouts. If you’re a beginner or just want the full experience, you’ll have to join the Junior WRC and jump behind the wheel of a Ford Fiesta Rally4. The meaty part of the game, Career mode, lets you choose where to start your adventure into the rally world. The sequel to last year’s WRC 9 FIA World Rally Championship, a game that set a higher bar for the genre, WRC 10 refines and hones some of the gameplay mechanics the previous titled offer while bringing some new content into the mix. Until then, we’ll be one of the best rally games out there for a spin: WRC 10. ![]()
